Treadplate - aluminium sheet

Treadplate

Also known as the floor plate, checker plate or chequered floor plate, this aluminium finish has multiple bars raised for increased grip and safety. It is used as floor covering for slip resistance and is also used on commercial vehicles and vans. The applications of this material are diverse and stretch from being used on access ramps for its grip qualities to being used as a door, wall and column protection to prevent impact damage.
The tread plate is available in different sizes and lengths depending on the specifications of the project.

Predominantly, aluminium treadplate is supplied in grade 5754 'O' condition although it is not uncommon to find it produced in 5086 to order.

For specific projects, we can stock and supply bespoke sizes of treadplate saving you both time in fabrication and processing and also money by reducing both weight and scrap.

From stock, we carry as thin as 2.0mm upto as thick as 6.0mm in the following sizes:

2000mm x 1000mm
2500mm x 1250mm
3000mm x 1500mm

Mill finish - aluminium sheet

Mill Finish

This is the standard finish of aluminium. It is the unfinished product straight out of the mill and no other surface treatment has been done on the sheet after manufacture. To protect the surface of the mill finished aluminium, it can be covered with a thin layer of plastic (called polycoating) that can be peeled off. For projects where aesthetics are important, you should consider other finishing processes-

  • Polishing is applied mechanically using abrasive belts and gives the aluminium either a grained, stain finish or a bright reflective finish.
  • Painting is applied either as a wet coat or as a powder and can not only enhance the appearance but also protect the metal from corrosion.
  • Anodising is a process achieved by sumerging the aluminium in an acidic solution which reacts with the metal giving a matt, uniform protective finish. Different colours can be achieved by adding a dye to the solution during the process.

Mill finish aluminium sheet is by far and a way the most popular finish and form of aluminium. It's flexibility when cutting, processing and fabricating combined with the ease of finishing by painting, polishing or (depending on the grade) anodising make it a product used in many industries.

Stucco - aluminium sheet

Stucco Aluminium

Stucco aluminium sheets are used in many applications including trailers, vehicle cladding and insulation. Because of the lightweight characteristics of aluminium they are highly versatile and can be applied to many fields.

Stucco sheets are manufactured using aluminium grade 1050, which allows them to exhibit decent strength and resistance to corrosion.

What sets stucco aside from mill finish is the pattern applied to the actual structure of the sheet. The manufacturing process involves passing sheet through embossed rollers. The sheet normally has a semi reflective finish which makes it a good insulator.

Commonly, stucco is used as refridgerator and freezer lining because the finish has strong insulating properties. Another application is the cladding of caravans or other lightweight vehicles where weight and aesthitcis are important.

thyssenkrupp Materials stock and supply a whole range of stucco off the shelf as well as supplying beposke sizes reducing both scrap and processing times.
